Annette Lidawer Announces Run For Re-Election To  Highland Park City Council In April 2025 Election

Lidawer, a one term incumbent, seeks to continue her service on the City Council

Highland Park, IL – December 12, 2024 – Annette Lidawer, today announced her candidacy for a second consecutive four-year term on the Highland Park City Council, stressing her record as a representative voice for the community’s economic development, sustainability and inclusivity.

“I am deeply committed to listening to the community and working strategically, collaboratively and tirelessly to enhance the vitality of Highland Park,” Lidawer said.

A resident of Highland Park for twenty-five years, Lidawer is completing her first term on the Council. She previously served two full terms as a member and two-year president of Township High School District 113’s Board. In between, she was a commissioner on the City’s Plan and Design Commission. “My years of continuous service bring stability, independence and depth of knowledge. But I also believe it is essential to stay in touch with the desires of our community.”

Lidawer served the city during the height of COVID-19 and through the horrific shooting incident of July 4.  She worked aggressively throughout her tenure developing economic initiatives for the city.  When faced with the public’s strong desire to overturn an antiquated liquor licensing law to allow more diverse and representative business candidates to serve on the Council, Lidawer was a passionate, independent voice on the Council along with Councilmember Andres Tapia, to vote in favor, even when in the minority.  She persevered in arguing that the Council reflect the will of the people to change the law after 82% of voters overwhelmingly passed an advisory referendum last month.

Lidawer’s advocacy for economic development and engagement through community involvement and events has contributed to a more vibrant and open Highland Park. “I’ve worked to change the priorities in Highland Park by adding economic development as a core principle and calling attention to old, outdated laws, and the need for support of our business community,” she stressed.

“Recognizing the divisive and trying times our community and nation have endured, we need experienced, and activist leadership—someone who can work with a wide range of stakeholders with a ‘can do’ collaborative approach. I will listen and act on residents’ concerns including those related to attracting businesses, commercial vibrancy and sustainable growth.

Lidawer is an attorney with extensive political and governmental experience. She previously served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York and as District Administrator for Congressman Stephen Solarz (D-NY). She has been the Grants Chair for the Jewish Women’s Foundation of Chicago and a Member of the Jewish Child and Family Services Board of Directors.

Lidawer and her husband, Rob Rubin, raised their children, Matthew (Daniella), Ari (Sarah) and Allie Rubin, in Highland Park. They attended Braeside, Edgewood and Highland Park High Schools. Lidawer graduated from Brown University and Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
